IT is being widely reported that legendary heavyweight champion George Foreman has passed away at the age of 76.

His family announced his death on Friday, March 21, 2025, stating that he died peacefully surrounded by loved ones. They described him as a "devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather" who lived a life of "unwavering faith, humility, and purpose."

Born on January 10, 1949, in Marshall, Texas, George grew up in Houston's Fifth Ward.

 

He had a difficult childhood and dropped out of school at 15, even admitting to being involved in muggings.

Foreman turned professional in 1969 and quickly established himself as a powerful force, winning his early fights by knockout.

 
In 1973, he shocked the world by defeating the previously undefeated and heavily favored Joe Frazier in Kingston, Jamaica, to become the world heavyweight champion. The fight, known as "Sunshine Showdown," saw Foreman dominate Frazier, knocking him down six times in two rounds.
